New Biker Chicz Reality TV Series!

East Coast Biker Chicks/Biker Chicz Reality Series

We are proud to have Lucky Belcamino and the East Coast Biker Chicks
as they will be bringing a film crew to NELSONS RIDE to capture the
spirit and drive of the great biker community who attend and volunteer
for this event for an episode of their Biker Chicz Reality Series. We
are very excited to once again have them participate in this event and
also participate in handling the greeting of riders and attendees
portion while also having some ECBC merchandise available for event
goers.

The ECBC will also be selling tickets to the PREMIERE of BIKER CHICZ,
including a limited number of VIP tickets for a sneak preview of
episode one being held at Kowloon's Rte 1 Saugus Sunday September 26th
2-4pm. Executive Producer Edward Winterhalder will be on hand also
showing 2 short biker films he produced of " Hog Heaven" and " Riding
on the Edge"

Biker Chicz is a reality television series that will feature the
colorful, entertaining and engaging women who are members of an
all-female motorcycle club in Boston known as the “East Coast Biker
Chicks” (ECBC). Set in the Boston metropolitan area, the series
chronicles the daily lives and activities of a group of empowered
women from all walks of life: a social worker, a scientist, a stock
broker, a wife and mother, a chiropractor and many others who are in
many ways average everyday typical American women. They are bound
together by their independence, love of motorcycles and the open road
and the camaraderie and fellowship which the ECBC provides.

Subj. Worcester County Motorcyclists Survivor's Fund being formed - get on this RIDE!

(Uxbridge, MA) - The Blackstone Valley Motorcyclists Survivor's Fund, Inc., ("BVMSF"), a 501c3 nonprofit organization of volunteers, Board of Directors voted last week to "expand" it's coverage area to include all of the sixty (60) Worcester County's cities and towns, effective next month.

"We got our feet wet the past two seasons and built up our Fund, due to the generosity of area riders," said Dave Menard of Whitinsville, founder and President of the all volunteer organization.

"Several other motorcycle leaders in the central and northern parts of the County have stepped forward giving us the commitment we needed for such a large expansion."

The BVMSF seeks to unite various riding clubs and group of all riding styles in the region, hosting events to raise money for local families of riders killed or seriously injured in accidents, and promotes motorcycle safety and awareness hoping to prevent those accidents.

Motorcycle related businesses, such as Ironstone Ventures Rider Education Schools, support and sponsor BVMSF events, said its president, Joe Proia.

It's concept is an expansion of the successful Southeast Motorcyclists Survivor's Fund (www.SEMMSF.org) and the Massachusetts Motorcyclists Survivor's Fund (www.MassMSF.org).

Both those organizations' boards voted to support the expansion into the entire Worcester County region after recent exploration meetings earlier this month, also attended by several Star Touring members who've helped on past Events but live in areas outside Worcester County

"We know riders believe in helping other riders families who are in need after an accident," said Bob "Bobcat" Jerszyk of Millbury, one of the region's Star Touring leaders and longtime supporter the SEMMSF and MMSF.

The expansion team will host another organizational meeting Thursday night, Feb. 18th, at 7:00 p.m., at the Central Mass Safety Council site in W. Boylston. All Worcester County riders and those promoting motorcycle safety and awareness are invited to come hear more about the expansion and planned Events for the 2010 riding season. 11th Annual Nelson's Ride - logo design contest

A "logo" design is needed for the 11th Annual MMSF "Nelson's Ride" - coming this August 22nd, staging at the beautiful ocean-side Stage Fort Park in Gloucester.

The selected logo design will go on the Event t-shirts, over 10,000 flyers, posters and postcards.

Entries must be received by Feb. 20, 2010 and should be submitted on-line via Contact@MassMSF.org or via the mail at MMSF, P.O. Box 427, Salem, MA 01970.

The Board of Directors of the MMSF, Inc., along with Nelson's Family, will be final judges of the entries.

The winner of the logo design selected will received two (2) Event T-shirts;
two (2) VIP passes to the 2010 Nelson's Ride; honorable mention throughout the 2010 season and at the Event.

All entries become the property of MMSF, Inc., with no additional compensation for their use other than stated herein.

Winner agrees to release of their name and photo to all media outlets.

Biker event to raise money for local man's funeral costs

SALISBURY — On Saturday, local motorcyclists, family and friends will honor local Salisbury resident and business owner Carl Hutchinson, who died at age 56 last month, with a ride and "Celebration of Life" party, co-hosted by LaChiquita's, Route 1, Salisbury.

"My dad used to take us to motorcycle events," said his daughter Ashley (Hutchinson) Turner. "It was always fun seeing motorcycles in our driveway when we were kids. He was a fixture in the motorcycle community, supporting a lot of charity rides."

"He gave a lot, and we are still in shock, but we want to honor and remember him as the husband, father, grandfather and friend he was to a lot of people. I'm honored his community wants to ride in his memory now."

Riders will begin staging at the LaChiquita's on Route 1 starting at 10 a.m. At noon, they will pull out for a short 29-mile ride through Amesbury and Southern N.H., head back to Hillside Cemetery and meet up with family and friends of Hutchinson for a grave site remembrance service, then go back to LaChiquita's for the Celebration of Life party with food, live music and prize raffles.

The Massachusetts Motorcyclists Survivor's Fund (www.MassMSF.org) is the host organization of the event to help the family offset funeral expenses. Requested donation is $15 per person, with children under 16 free.

Riders Testify in support of House Bill Number 1405

(State House, MA) - Today, riders testified in a "panel group," before the Joint Committee on the Judiciary, in support of House, No. 1405, a bill seeking to shift the financial burdens accident victims face, back to the at-fault operators.

State Senator Steve Brewer and Rep. Anne Gobi spoke first in support of HB 1405. Then the bill's author, Paul W. Cote, introduced the HB 1405, it's intent and significance , and the panel.

Panel testimony began with Jeff and Leila B. Leila testified about her accident where another vehicle hit her in an intersection, breaking every bone in her right leg. Over $71,000 in medical bills, the at-fault driver only has $20,000 in liability limits. Her husband Jeff, riding behind her and witnessing the accident, testified how the financial burden of the medical bills have affected their lives, through no fault of there own.

Next up, Mark P. of Natick testified how he lost one friend in 1998, and another in 2004, due to right of way violations. Betsy Lister testified, as a long time insurance agent and former director of motorcycle safety and awareness, how she gets calls after horrific accidents, and there is not enough coverage to compensation the victims.

Tom N. of Middleboro testified about his accident, when a driver turned left in front of three on-coming motorcyclists, that he lost his best friend, while suffering injuries and incurring medical expenses in excess of $30,000, . . . and ongoing, yet he only recovered $25,000, due to the inadequate limits of that at-fault operator. He lost his home, he still requires treatments and services.

Bill Gannon testified it's not about criminal penalties - that it is about adequate insurance and judges making meaningful sentences, to include community sentencing that helps prevent others from these injustices.

Cote wrapped up the testimony, reminding Committee members, who are mostly lawyers, that "tort law" is a remedy to 'right a civil wrong.' That the elements of HB 1405 seek to prevent victims of accidents from being 'victimized twice,' and to make the at-fault operators assume the financial burden they cause in excess of their liability insurance limits.

While another bill filed seeking to increase the criminal penalties of right of way violations, no one testified in support of that bill. Gannon spoke in opposition to that bill, telling Committee Members that in one accident a Judge revoked a person's right to operate for life. . . but that bill would have only taken away, that right for 180 days.

"Judges should use 'community service sentencing' - where appropriate," to make those at-fault operators tell their stories to others in hopes of preventing these accidents.

Riders are encouraged over the next two weeks to contact their own State Senators and Representatives, asking them to support HB 1405, by writing to the Joint Committee on Judiciary chairpersons, to vote HB 1405 out of Committee, with a 'favor, ought to pass' recommen dation.

LOCAL RIDERS TO HONOR TONY PLANTE

(Peabody, MA) - On Sunday, September 27, a motorcyclist funeral procession will ride through Peabody, honoring local Peabody resident, Tony Plante, who died at age 49 in January, 2008 motorcycle crash, while in Florida.

"Tony was a personality, locally and nationally, in the motorcycle and tattoo communities," said his Mother, Carol Plante.

"He gave a lot but when we buried him at Cedar Grove Cemetery in the winter, only about 6 motorcycles could brave the winter cold. I'm honored the riding community that was a big part of his life wants to ride in his memory now."

Riders will stage at the Elks Lodge on Oak Street, starting at 10 a.m. At noon, an empty carriage Hearst pulled by a 3-wheeled motorcycle will lead the slow funeral procession Ride through Peabody Square, up Central Street pass Plante's "Shining Star" tattoo studio, turning left at Wilson Square, crossing over Lowell Street, past the Police Station, onto Washington Street, Lynnfield Street, turning left onto Bartholomew, past Plante's home, left onto Lynn Street, to Cedar Grove Cemetery for a grave site memorial service, then back to the Elks Lodge for a "celebration of life" party with food, live music and a tattoo judging contest.

The Massachusetts Motorcyclists Survivor's Fund (www.MassMSF.org) will be the benefactor of the requested $15 per person donations, memorial patches and Event t-shirt sales, with 50% of those donations to be dedicated to a fund to help riders losing limbs in accidents.

"Tony lost his right leg in a motorcycle accident in 2003," said his Mom. "but he was back riding 6 months later, amazing his doctors and others how quickly he adapted to his new leg."

"I know the costs associated with new limbs, and I'd like to keep his memory alive helping other local riders who lose limbs."

Plante opened the first legal tattoo studios on the North Shore in 2001, after Superior Court Judge Barbara Rouse struck down the state ban on tattooing.

"Tony was instrumental in setting standards with the local Boards of Health for tattoo licenses," said Ms. Plante with pride. He had studios in Peabody, Beverly, and Florida, and took his mobile tattoo van to area motorcycle events. Ms. Plante continues operating "The Shining Star Tattoo and Body Piercing Studio" on Central Street.

1. ) Weather - As Vince's put out his weather forecast this past Monday night, most 'experts' are now agreeing with him - Sunday, August 23rd will be sunny, about 80 degrees. There may be some "wave action" - which will be great to watch from the ocean front Stage Fort Park, Gloucester host site of the 10th Annual Nelson's Ride.

As always - things can change. For the safety of all riders -
IF a decision is made to postpone the Ride 8/23 due to weather - it will be made about 7:30 a.m., Sunday morning - and posted on the web site - to August 30th. If in doubt Sunday morning - check the www.MassMSF.org and/or www.NelsonsRide.org web sites after 8:00 a.m.

Otherwise, the RIDE is ON !

Come ride with pride, in memory of Nelson Selig, and the too many riders we know who have killed and/or seriously injured in motorcycle accidents. Help raise awareness !

2. ) If you're volunteering to help out at the Event, whether it's Road Guarding or "staffing" our key areas, . . . watch for the North Shore Riders teams of traffic and parking directors' instructions where to park your bikes in the designated "Road Guard" and "Staff" areas.

All volunteers - please park your bikes and then sign in at the VOLUNTEER / STAFF booth, pick up your vests, and get a raffle ticket for special drawings for volunteers only prizes - $650 value - 1 day landscaping services by Scott Ringland's "Grounds Crew" of Methuen ! - or 2nd place prize - a Will, Power of Attorney, and Health Care Proxy by MMSF's attorney, Ride supporter and riders, Joseph S. 2. ) Thursday night we met with Gloucester officials, and did the final 'walk-through,' . . . and all systems are GO ! The City of Gloucester and the Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce have been great to work with and they look forward to welcoming Riders to their community, Sunday, August 23rd ! The FINAL Ride Route, a 30-mile SLOW RIDE - planned and mapped by our Road Captains Sherm of Christian Motorcycle Association and Eric of Star Touring Chapter 240, is posted on www.NelsonsRide.org, with a map and expected times the Ride will be traveling past various landmarks on the Ride Route. TONS of thanks to the communities and Police of Gloucester, Manchester-by-the-Sea, Beverly, Wenham, Hamilton, Ipswich, and Essex.

Gordon Cornwell College and the Myopia Hunt Club have been GREAT notifying their employees and attendees - to expect traffic delays and wish the are proud how our motorcycle community comes together for the Survivor's Fund.

Over the next 10 days, over 2,000 "expect traffic delay" flyers will be distributed along the Ride Route - which will 'clear the roads' somewhat and also bring out spectators to watch you ride by. Over 1,000 bikes at an average cost of $10K per bike = $10 million of iron horses on this EVENT ! As a community, riders have a lot of 'economic clout' when we get together. CLEAN UP CREW needed ! - Mark Lombardi of Rhino Liners of Danvers is heading up our 'clean up crew,' and he's lonely right now ! We always burn out at the end and we need 5-10 people to join Mark, - doing NOTHING all day but at the end of the day, break down the tents, tables, signs, etc., load them onto our Mobile Events Van, and walk the grounds picking up trash so we leave the Stage Fort Park cleaner than it was before over 1,500 bikes came. (Raynham, MA) The 3rd annual "Brian's Ride," an AMA sanctioned Event, hosted by the Southeastern Massachusetts Motorcyclists' Survivors Fund, Inc., and co-sponsored by the Acme Armament of Plympton, the Jockey Club, S & L Mailing & Graphics of Kingston, Training Wheels and Planet Dirt Rider Training Schools, is this Sunday, August 2nd, at the Jockey Club just off Route 28 and on Route 44, in Raynham. Last year, this Event (www.BriansRideFriends.org) saw over 650 bikes, more passengers and drive-ins, rallying for "Riders helping Riders" families in need, due to motorcycle accidents and to promote motorcycle safety and awareness, in memory of Brian Mello, a New Bedford firefighter, son, husband and father, who was killed in March of 2007 when an elderly driver turned left in front of three oncoming motorcycles.

Staging begins at the Jockey Club at 9:30 a.m., this Sunday - Ride leaves at NOON sharp !

Advance Ride tickets at $15 per person, (includes great food, free door prize entry for 2 Red Sox tickets [GREAT SEATS] and close to the front Ride staging position) are available on-line at www.SEMMSF.org - up to midnight, Friday, July 31st - and at Chili Head's BBQ Co. More than 50 family and friends of Nelson Selig braved the rain tonight and helped kick off the count down to the August 23rd 10th Annual "Nelson's Ride," as the MMSF, on behalf of the motorcycle community, donated and dedicated a "Nelson Selig, Sr. Memorial Bench" at the Whittier Motel in Ipswich.

Original Event founders, Ted and Sue LeMieux, Jason Hallock and Paul W. Cote, teamed up with State Senator Bruce Tarr, State Rep. Brad Hill, members of the North Shore Women on Wheels, the Aces and Eights Riding Club, North Shore Riders, Star Touring Chapter 240, the American Legion Riders, VFW members, old and new friends, joined in honoring Nelson's parents, Faye and Bob, Nelson's wife Felicia and children (now young adults), at the Memorial Bench dedication.

Ted LeMieux told the crowd, "Ten years ago we never imaged it would grow into this, we just wanted to help Nelson's family." Jason Hallock, a friend of Nelson and long time MMSF Board Member thanked the crowd for their ongoing support for 'riders helping rider's families." State Senator Bruce Tarr, involved since "Day 1" - said, "This extended family of Nelson - motorcyclists - has shown the Commonwealth and the nation that people that ride motorcycles count - and we are listening." State Rep. Brad Hill, also involved the past 10 years said, "I'm proud to have been a small part of getting "Nelly's Bill" enacted into law, making drivers more aware and reducing accidents that sadly took Nelson's life too early - and you too should be proud of your accomplishments."

It was announced that Nelson's mom, Faye, will be the "Parade Queen" for the 10th Annual Nelson's Ride, August 23rd from the Stage Fort Park in Gloucester, leading the Ride on www.BostonBiker.com Larry Cahill's "Demon" trike, with Bob and Felicia riding also.

TONS of thanks to the more than 150 riders who helped Greg Reynolds "Finish the Ride" an SEMMSF sponsored Event, Sunday, June 28, and the more than 150 friends, family members and supporters who joined the riders at the Lafayette Club. Great Ride, great Pig Roast by Paul Verdatt of Classic Catering, great tunes by Johnny G 3 band, raffle prizes, . . . good time by all. Over $10K was grossed and very much appreciated. Half of the proceeds after expenses will go to helping other downed riders, their families, and to promote motorcycle safety and awareness in hopes of preventing accidents.

Sunday, June 28, a young Veteran and severely injured rider and his family need our and your support.

"Help Greg Finish the Ride," Seekonk to Taunton - co-hosted by the Southeastern MA Motorcyclists Survivor's Fund (www.SEMMSF.org) - $15 in advance (available on that web site until 6/27) - $20 at the Seekonk Speedway 9:30 staging area - Ride leaves at NOON SHARP. AMA sanctioned Event - includes PIG ROAST by Paul V. (formerly an ABATE of MA member) at the Lafayette Club, and live music donated by "Johnny G 3," with John Gilligan. Here's the short version of the long - all too familiar "rider-victim" story - and what else YOU can do about it !

Last June 22, (2008) Greg was riding home when a 75-year old blew a STOP sign, (he "thought he could make it") resulting in a direct impact with Greg shattering his body and his young life.

After volunteering for the MA Army National Guard while finishing High School, he answered the call to duty the spring of 2002, then went to "the theater of operations" the spring of 2003 for 12 months, and was then "boots on the ground" for a another 3 months attached in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Greg was a driver in the 1058 Transportation Unit out of Hingham. He was in an ambush while over there as well as many "near misses" with IED, and many other hazards. His unit traveled all over that country! They actually transformed their trucks into "gun trucks" so then he was a "machine gunner" running escorts for "third country nationals." He earned his Air Assault Wings which was a big accomplishment for him. He is a Staff Sergeant and was a platoon leader as well as his unit's PT instructor. Quite accomplished for a young guy.

He was home for 4 years when then his world turned upside down. He was a full time college student (Bridgewater State College, Criminal Justice Major, on the Dean's List), still serving in the MA Army National Guard (had signed on for another 6 years and planned on doing 20 years) and also worked part time at Loomis (armored money trucks). He was due to graduate last month and had been recruited by the Newport RI police department.

And then some 75-year old guy in a hurry with no place to go - blows a STOP sign - with minimal liability coverage and no assets. And now, with over $700,000 in medical bills, . . . Greg will never see a dime.

So the www.SEMMSF.org, the folks at Seekonk Speedway, Joe & Jane of www.IronstoneVentures.com and Greg's family and friends - see www.aheroheals.com - are joining forces to make Greg's and his family's lives a little comfortable, with this "Help Greg Finish the Ride" fundraising Event, and a portion of the funds raised from this Event will go into the SEMMSF pool of funds to assist other riders families in need.

Greg will be at the Ride. If he can be there - please come out also - whether your a rider, a veteran - (or both) - or just a person who would like to pay tribute and make a donation to this special young man and his family - rain or shine, ride or drive, Sunday, June 28th.

PC EDITORIAL NOTE - AS A MOTORCYCLIST ADVOCATE - NOT ON BEHALF OF THE MMSF OR SEMMSF . . .

I sent a letter to the driver who wrecked Greg's life over two weeks ago, offering to mediate an off the record meeting with Greg. He has not yet answered that invitation - We hope he will - that would help Greg in his healing and rehab process. As no citation was issued, we suspect he's just been advised to stay away.

On behalf of motor vehicle accident victims, House, No. 1405 has been filed at the State House, seeking to shift the financial burdens victims and their families face when others violate their right of way resulting in death or serious bodily injury. House, No. 1405 has been assigned to the Judiciary Committee and its Public Hearing is scheduled for September 29th. I'll be asking ALL victims of right of way violations, and their families to be at that Hearing, to share with legislators how 'right of way victims' are victimized twice - first with the accident and resulting injuries or lost of life, and secondary with the financial burdens through no fault of their own.

If this type bill gets enacted, that $700,000 in debt Greg faces - through no fault of his own - would be shifted to the at-fault driver who won't even answer a letter. Let him go bankrupt, not his victim. Please pass the word to others you know who have been victimized - join me in Seekonk OR Taunton on June 28 and at the State House September 29th !

Stage Fort Park in Gloucester will host 10th Annual Nelson's Ride!

(Gloucester, MA) - Stage Fort Park, in Gloucester, (off Route 127 and right on the ocean), will be the host site for the 10th Annual "Nelson's Ride," Sunday, August 23 (with 8/30 its rain date), as today, the City of Gloucester Licensing Committee unanimously approved the Special Event license, permit applications and of the Massachusetts Motorcyclists Survivor's Fund, Inc.

Appearing before the Police & Fire Chief and Assistant City Clerk, were MMSF officers Jason Hallock, Jacky Kieras, and Paul W. Cote. Prior to the Hearing, the MMSF had submitted its "Event Plan" with supporting documents, and had signed a "Facilities Usage Agreement" with Gloucester's Department of Public Works. Both the Police Chief and Assistant Clerk expressed their appreciation of the Plan and references provided.

Our web mistress Samantha has updated the www.NelsonsRide.org web site with the Event schedule, a layout of the expected usage of Park, the proposed 30-mile SLOW Ride Route (subject to police approval), pictures of the Event T-shirts, and linked up our "click & pledge" account to begin taking credit card orders now ! In line with the this being the "10th Annual" Nelson's Ride, due to present economic conditions, and your 10 years of support, some advance purchase items will be $10.

Now available on the www.NelsonsRide.org web site, advance Ride Tickets are $10 per bike and $10 per passenger. Purchase of advance Ride tickets gets you into the door prize drawing. Reminder - motorcycle inspection stickers deadline is Sunday, May 31. Being stopped with an invalid, current sticker carries a $50 fine, is a surchargable offense increasing your insurance rates, and the vehicle is subject to tow.

There are less than 225 motorcycle inspection shops in Massachusetts, for over 180,000 registered motorcycles. Most are not open on Sundays, and/or close early on Saturday. Update on the 10th Annual "Nelson's Ride" - . . . Stage Fort Park is the likely site of the 10th Annual "Nelson's Ride." The Agreement has been signed with the MMSF and the DPW of Gloucester, for Sunday, August 23 (and 8/30 as its rain date). We have additional meetings with other City departments the week of June 8 to finalize details. The Ride Route is being sent to local Police Chiefs for their review and recommendations.

Rolling Thunder Motorcycle Rally, Washington, DC - Sunday, May 24.

Several MMSF members and supporters are heading down to this Event, via Gettysburg, Tom Jefferson's and James Madison houses in VA, some lobbying in DC, and supporting Veteran's and other citizen's concerned about our Missing in Action and Prisoner of War military service people, still unaccounted for.

Update on the 10th Annual Nelson's Ride . . . An Agreement has been signed with the MMSF and the DPW of Gloucester, for use of the Stage Fort Park on Route 127 as the host site for the 10th Annual "Nelson's Ride," for Sunday, August 23 (and 8/30 as its rain date). Some other City departments need to 'sign off' on it but its looking good.

Frank Perron of Ipswich and Lee Blais of Danvers have used their combined talents, winning our logo design contest, and finishing touches are being put on that design and will be released soon. Groundbreaking benefit is free to members who renew their memberships automatically
PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The AMA rocked the motorcycling community Friday, Feb. 13, with the announcement of a remarkable new membership benefit: free AMA Roadside Assistance for the same $39 annual cost that AMA members currently pay to belong to the world's largest member-based motorcyclists' rights organization.

Every member who enrolls in the AMA's new auto-renewal program is rewarded with free AMA Roadside Assistance. It's an incredible value that covers all of a member's motorcycles, plus all of his or her other vehicles, including motorhomes and trailers. And it's available for every kind of rider: cruiser, tourer, sportbike, commuter, dual-sport, off-road and racer.

"AMA members have long supported our efforts to protect and promote motorcycling," said AMA President and CEO Rob Dingman at a press conference preceding the opening of the annual Dealernews International Powersports Dealer Expo in Indianapolis. "With our new auto-renewal program and free AMA Roadside Assistance, we are finally able to provide a much sought-after benefit that every member needs, every time they ride. And it's completely free."

Dingman added that the first 25,000 members who enroll in the new AMA autorenewal program will receive a $10 shopping coupon from AMA partner BikeBandit.com. BikeBandit.com is just one of more than two dozen AMA partners who provide members with useful and valuable discounts on products and services.

The AMA has been on a roll since last fall, adding at l east nine new member benefit partners. They include: Garmin, RoadLok, SPOT, LifeLock, MAD Maps, EZY-Lift, XENA Locks and more.

When asked how the AMA could afford to provide AMA Roadside Assistance for free, Dingman said, "It's simple really. In the past, we've sent out more than 1 million pieces of renewal mail a year. AMA membership: A Revolution

At the press conference, Dingman revealed the new AMA membership structure.

• AMA Competition Plus ($39) is the new best-value membership for those who enjoy racing with the AMA. Nick's Ride on April 19th in Marlborough, MA

Join us for "Nick's Ride," Sunday, April 19, at the Moose Lodge, 67 Fitchburg Street, in Marlborough as greater MetroWest area riders and groups have joined with the MMSF, SEMMSF and BVMSF to honor Nick "Dino" Butler, and raise some funds for his daughter's educational scholarship fund and launch a greater "MetroWest" division of the Massachusetts Motorcyclists Survivor's Fund, to help promote motorcycle safety and awareness to reduce motorcycle accidents and assist local families of riders killed and/or seriously injured in accidents.

The Moving Wall in Boston | Fundraiser in W. Roxbury on 2/27

"The Moving Wall," ( www.themovingwall.org ), a traveling replica of the Washington, DC memorial to Viet Nam Veterans, will be coming to the Millennium Park, Boston area September 17-21, 2009.

My buddy, Joe D'Entremont, Vice President, Rolling Thunder MA1, ( www.rollingthunderma1.com ), is one of several organizers of this Event.

Below is a copy of a recent newspaper story about this Event.

Joe has asked me for some assistance, based in part of being co-coordinator of the Moving Wall's visit to Amesbury back in 2005.

The planning of this (actual) week long, 24 hour a day event, and fundraising to offset its costs, has begun.

Over 300 riders and veterans in 2005 answered the "call for duty" and helped support this effort, in donations of their time, money and talent.

I'm putting out the "call for duty" again.

Please e-mail if you can serve on a sub-committee and/or donate some time for security in September, especially the '3rd shift.'

Next, fundraising to offset the costs of this project has begun.

A Party is planned for Friday night, Feb. 27, 2009 from 7-midnight, at the West Roxbury Elks No. 10, 248 Spring Street, W. Roxbury.

Tribute to Vietnam vets coming to West Roxbury Scott Wachtler

Joe D'Entremont said he's always had an affinity for the plight of
Vietnam Veterans.

"I was too young to serve," he said. "But I remember wearing a POW/MIA
patch on my jacket when I was young and listening to WBZ read off the
lists of the servicemen who died."

D'Entremont and a few of his friends, Mike Flynn, Mike Gormley and
Frank Sullivan have decided to pay tribute to the fallen soldiers of the
War in Vietnam by bringing The Moving Wall Memorial to West Roxbury's
Millennium Park on Sept. 17-21.

The Moving Wall is a half-sized replica of the Washington DC Vietnam
Veterans Memorial. In spite of its smaller size, the Moving Wall
contains all 58,000 names of soldiers killed in action or listed missing
in action.

Before the Moving Wall can come to Boston, D'Entremont and his crew of
supporters will need to raise the funds to bring the memorial here.

"It costs $5,500 just to bring it to Boston," D'Entremont said, "Plus,
we will need to build a platform for it and hire speakers to come speak
at the events we will have scheduled."

D'Entremont said he has already put a downpayment on the memorial and
he is currently in talks with several speakers who will need to be
flown in for the event. He estimates they will need to raise roughtly
$20,000 to do the event the justice it deserves.

On Friday Feb. 27, from 7 P.M. until midnight, the West Roxbury Elks
Club on 248 Spring St. will host a fundraiser for the event. Tickets for the
fundraiser are $10 and will include food and a chance at door prizes
donated by The Harpoon Brewery. D'Entremont said they also plan on
having a DJ at the fundraiser.

This year POW/MIA Recognition day will fall on one of the days the
Moving Wall will be in West Roxbury.

D'Entremont hopes the day will serve as a memorial to the 39 servicemen
from Massachusetts still listed as POW/MIAs.

"Hopefully it will serve as a reminder to people and
keep the issues of POW and MIAs and PTSDs in the forefront - especially
now that we have a new group of veterans coming back from the wars in
Afghanistan and Iraq," D'Entremont said.

Help design the logo for the 10th Annual "Nelson's Ride" !

The MMSF, Inc.'s Board of Directors has opened a 'contest' for the design of the 10th Annual "Nelson's Ride," logo Event taking place on August 23rd, (location being determined).

For this year's Event, we are seeking submissions from the public for the "logo design" to be used on the Event flyers, posters, postcards, t-shirts and other products.
Design should be family friendly, and at least encompass the Essex County/Cape Ann area and reflect the 10th anniversary, with a theme of "motorcycle safety" and/or "Riders helping Riders."

All entries will be judged by the MMSF, Inc.'s Board of Directors.
All submissions become the property of the MMSF, Inc.
All submissions must be submitted on-line, at Contact@MassMSF.org.
All submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m., Feb. 15, 2009, for consideration.

Winning designer agrees to be available for photo sessions through August 23, 2009.
Winning designer will receive special recognition at the 10th Annual Nelson's Ride; six (6) passes to the August 23rd Ride Event; and four (4) t-shirts; and other surprises.

Year 2009 will be the 10th anniversary of the tragic death of Nelson Selig, which ignited the drive by Massachusetts motorcyclist, for greater motorcycle safety and awareness, to reduce those accidents, injuries and fatalities.

With the support of Nelson's family, the formation in 2003 of the Massachusetts Motorcyclists Survivor's Fund, Inc., and the help, participation, sponsorships and partnerships of numerous motorcycle clubs, groups, organizations, associations, businesses and riders, we have accomplished some of those goals. You have also helped more than 25 familes over the years, in their times of need.

As riders, we must remain "Vigilant, daily" and continue to "take care of our own." The missions and goals of the MMSF has spread in Massachusetts now to supporting organizations in Southeastern, Blackstone Valley and Metro West regions. We thank every rider who has attended our Events, and every volunteer who have worked the Events, and every person who has donated.

Over 70 people braved the snowstorms, attending the MMSF Holiday Party Saturday at the Village Green, as the MMSF "re-gifted" $5,000 from riders to ten (10) MMSF families, making it a bit easier on their families for Christmas.

Friends, families and representatives of the Aces and Eights RC, North Shore Women on Wheels (WOW), North Shore Riders, Witch City Riders, and Star Touring attended, along with Nelson's parents Faye and Bob. Deb "Chic" came in from Charlton and Elisa Mello, (President of the Southeaster MMSF and Brian's Ride)," joining others from the North Shore. The egg nog was flowing with a delicious carved turkey served up by the Village Green staff.

"We had a decent year," Paul W. Cote told the crowd. "Reduced accidents and lots of money donated by the riders to the Fund, allow us to help more now with our holiday gifts from the riding community." Cote reported the MMSF re-directed over $13,000 in 2008 to riders families, and this weekend donated another $500 to the ten families, (eight who were present at the Party). "Each riders' $15 donation here and $10 donation there all add up allowing the Survivor's Fund to help rider families in need, and we thank all the riders for helping us take care of our own."

With John Jermore Music of Gloucester played great tunes, the MMSF Board members surprised one of their own with a surprise birthday cake. Vince Silvia, past Clerk and current Treasurer of the MMSF, who grew up sharing his December 21 birthday with his twin brother and Christmas, blew out all the candles on his cake to the Birthday chorus.

Marty Johnson's dad (of Middleton) attended with Friends of Marty while Marty's mother Donna and Melyssa went to the Beverly Hospital, where (later reported) baby "Marty" was born, (about a month premature). Both Baby Marty and Melyssa are doing well, and this might be the first MMSF baby !

The raffle drawing saw six-year old "Sami" pulling the winners, all who have been contacted:

Peggy Blais of Danvers: Nelson's Ride Parade Queen

(Salisbury, MA) Peggie Blais of Danvers will honor the 9th Annual "Nelson's Ride" as its Parade Queen/ Marshall.

Peggie, in 1949, was expecting her third child when her husband traded in their car for a motorcycle. "I thought it was neat. I asked him if girls ride, and he got me a bike too." Peggie, now 80 years young, has been riding ever since.

She was recently recognized at Laconia Bike Week by the Rally Association. She and her family are featured in the recently released "History of Motorcycle Week" book published by Charlie St. Clair and Jennifer Anderson.

The Blais family, with six children, made the annual trek to Motorcycle Week in the 1950's and early 1960's, on two motorcycles with sidecars, and winning about 13 Gypsy Tour trophies for 'best look-alike' (kids), youngest child to ride, woman who rode the most miles, and 'best family' awards.

Then came three more children. "What do you do, the sidecars weren't big enough," she said.

Over the past eight years, she has either rode Nelson's Ride, attended it or stood by her Danvers home waving to the riders. "We had signs reading, 'honk if you love motorcycles and heard about 4,000 horns blasting !"

"Its a wonderful cause, riders helping families of riders killed or seriously injured in accidents."

For years, her husband Bob ran the old Witch City Cycles in Salem. He even build a bike in their basement only to find out there was no way to get it out of the basement, dismantled it and rebuilt it in their living room. "We eat, drink and sleep motorcycles," she said, and has passed that onto her children and grandchildren.

When she wasn't riding with her husband, she rode with the "Motor Maids" riding club, one of the first women riding groups.

With nine children, (6 sons and 3 daughters), they all ride motorcycles. Extending that, there are daughters-in-law, a grandson, and even a great grandson with a tiny electric motorcycle.

Peggie, who still rides her 3-wheel Trike, will be a passenger on "the Demon," a Trike built by Larry Cahill of Medford, and co-sponsor of Nelson's Ride with his motorcycle web site www.BostonBiker.com.

"We acknowledge and appreciate all Peggie and her family have done over 6 decades," said Nelson's Ride promoter Paul W. Cote, President of the Survivor's Fund Board of Directors, "to enhance the positive aspects of motorcycling."

Nelson's Ride fundraiser rumbles through North Shore tomorrow

SALISBURY —Tomorrow you may think it is thunder rolling down your street, but the source of the noise is something much more formidable: a pack of hundreds of motorcycle riders with a cause.

For the second year, the fundraiser Nelson's Ride will begin and end in the Salisbury Municipal Parking Lot at Salisbury Beach and rumble through virtually every town in the region between noon and 2:30 p.m.

The ride began nine years ago as a way to help raise money for the family of the late Nelson Selig of Essex, who died in a motorcycle accident in Ipswich in 2000. After three years, Selig's widow, Felicia, said her family was well taken care of and others were in need. Since then, donations have been going toward a program called the Massachusetts Motorcyclists Survivors' Fund, which makes money available to families and bikers across the state in need due to injury or death.

And what began with 700 riders has now swelled to between 1,500 and 2,500 motorcyclists who will take a 66-mile low-speed ride through the streets of the North Shore.

Paul Cote, president of the Board of Directors for Nelson's Ride, said he believes what keeps the ride so successful is that it is a personal cause to each rider.

"Nelson's Ride works to reduce accidents and pain," Cote said. "Even if you don't feel it or experience it yourself, you still have to help."

This year marked a first for Nelson's Ride, which expanded the cause to the South Shore with Brian's Ride, raising an additional $20,000. Catching the fundraising bug, some riders are traveling up from as far away as Hyannis to participate in the North Shore version of the ride.

So far, 250 riders have preregistered, and Cote believes most of the turnout depends on weather. Thankfully for the riders, this weekend holds clear skies for what has been a rainy summer. With the weather intact, the ride is expected to raise close to $30,000 this year.

An Amesbury resident himself, Cote is pleased to begin in Salisbury and loves the business the ride generates for Salisbury Beach.

"On a given Labor Day weekend, Salisbury probably sees 250 visitors," Cote said, "but the ride brings in thousands of people and with that business."

Working in close conjunction with the police, Cote cites safety as the main concern with the slow moving ride. Experienced group leaders all ride 5 mph under posted speed limits. Bikers will ride in a scattered formation, and three weeks ago, volunteers posted 100 delay signs with specific times for all motorists to be aware.

Because of the large volume of riders, all stop signs, red lights and intersections will be delayed until riders pass through. Cote reminds motorists that the rider is not above the law but working with it. Delays are estimated to run about 20 to 30 minutes long.

Cote himself suffered a small crash in his early years and stopped riding until 11 years ago.

No longer apprehensive, he said, "Riding is just you and the road. It's a sense of being."

(Salisbury, MA) The 9th Annual "Nelson's Ride" route and map are now posted on the www.MassMSF.org web site. Take a peek at where the Ride will be traveling, through 14 communities and at what times, and encourage your non-riding friends to come out and see the parade of bikes (over 250 advance orders on line processed - thank YOU !)

Sunday's "Schedule of Events" is now posted on the www.MassMSF.org web site, with volunteers from the Aces and Eights Riding Club, the North Shore Women on Wheels, the East Coast Bikers Chicks, the North Shore Riders, HIS Riders/Christian Motorcycle Association, and Rolling Thunder members, and other independent riders, who all make this annual Event run 'smooth,' with the setting up of the Parking Lot, the 'barkers' directing where the bikes come into the lot, the collection of liability release waivers, the acceptance of the Ride donations ($15 per person requested), the parking and staging of the bikes. TONS of thanks to the more than 60 volunteers and groups who put on this Event with the MMSF. If you'd like to work a few hours at the Event (many hands make light work for all) write us at contact@MassMSF.org and we'll pass on your info to our Volunteers Coordinator, Dianne.

Road Captains - TONS of thanks to the above riding clubs, and Boston HOG, the Cruiser Club of Boston, and other independent Riders, who have already signed as Road Captains. We can always use more helping make the Ride safe for all. If you'd like to help with Road Guarding, please write us at contact@MassMSF.org, and we'll pass your info to our Ride Captain, Deputy Dick ! Note, Road Captains go out about 15 minutes before the Ride, to intersections, waiting for the Ride to approach, then 'block' the intersection for the Riders safety, and fall in to the Ride as the last bike approaches. We also need Ride Captains in the 'pack' to ensure no one jeopardizes the safety of the Ride and/or to make decisions to block smaller streets along the Ride Route where it appears impatient motorists are trying to wedge their way into the Ride.

Vendor Space - a limited amount of Vendor Space is available, at $50 per space, with an 'item donation' for our raffles, or $100 (without an item donation). Vendors are required to pay in advance of Sunday, come in from 7:30 - 8:30 a.m., be set up and ready to sell by 9:15 a.m. Space will be available for vendors to park their vehicles behind their vending space for easy loading and unloading of products. If you know some vendors who might want to vend, have them contact us at contact@MassMSF.org.

Our buddy Betsy Murphy of Salem will be moving out of Massachusetts Labor Day weekend - relocating to North Carolina, and we are throwing a 'bye-bye Betsy' Party at Kowloon's, 948 Broadway (Route 1 North), Saugus, on Thursday night, August 28, from 7-9 p.m. Light snacks will be served with pay as you go beverages.

As many of you know, over the years Betsy has donated hundreds of hours of her time, talent an energy, helping others. She was a founding Board Member of the Massachusetts Motorcyclists Survivor's Fund. She testified passionately for adult helmet choice during the ABATE of Massachusetts years, and has been a longtime member of the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association (MMA), helping get six (6) bills enacted for motorcyclists She also handled the Registration for our Annual Toy Ride for 4 years.

Betsy is a past member of Boston HOG and Cruiser Club of Boston, and a current member of the East Coast Biker Chicks, American Motorcyclists Association (AMA) and Motorcycle Riders Foundation (MRF), and Merrimac Valley HOG.

Come Thursday night, August 28, 2008, from 7-9 p.m., to Kowloon's, for your last good-byes and well wishes as she embarks on another chapter in her life. Salisbury Beach will once again be the headquarters for Nelson's Ride Rally, a motorcycle event sponsored by the Massachusetts Motorcyclists' Survivors Fund.

This year's ride takes place Sunday, Aug. 24, and includes hundreds of riders making a 60-mile tour, starting and ending at the beach. The rally raises money to benefit the local families of motorcycle riders killed or injured in accidents.

Nelson's Ride commemorates the death of Nelson Selig Sr., who died in a motorcycle accident in Ipswich in 2000, leaving a young family behind. The ride began as a way to raise money to send Selig's children to college. Established in 2003, the Massachusetts Motorcyclists' Survivors Fund continues its efforts to raise money for other families who've lost loved ones to motorcycle accidents.

Middleton’s Marty Johnson wasn’t someone you could ignore. Whether he was making a room erupt with laughter or offering up help, friends and family say the kind and generous 21-year-old brought life into every situation.

“You can’t sum him up in a paragraph,” longtime friend Loretta Swift said. “He was always larger than life.”

Tragically, Johnson’s life was taken in an instant, the result of a motorcycle accident in June. Johnson had collided with a tree on Washington Street in Topsfield in the early morning on June 19. Since then, crosses and flowers have been placed around the area near the crash site as a memorial for the Middleton man. He is survived by his girlfriend, Melissa, and their unborn child.

To honor him, friends and family are gathering this Sunday in Lawrence for a ceremony and motorcycle ride. The ride will also serve as a fundraiser with proceeds going to his girlfriend to help support their child.

“I think its wonderful to keep his memory alive,” Johnson’s mother, Donna, said about the ride. “He loved motorcycles…so he died doing something that he really loved.”

The ride will leave the Gateway Pub on Merrimac Street in Lawrence around noon on Sunday, Aug. 3. Riders, who donate $15, will go through Old Andover Center, then down Route 114 into Middleton, past the Johnson family house.

Swift, who is engaged to Johnson’s older brother Philip, said she had known Johnson since he was little kid.

“He had these huge broad shoulders. I always called him my big little brother,” Swift said.

Although sometimes stubborn, Swift said Johnson would always be the person in the room that would make you laugh.

“He was hilarious,” Swift said. “He is all around a great kid, he would do anything for anyone.”

Both Swift and Johnson’s girlfriend, Melissa, will be speaking at the ceremony before the ride. While the Gateway Pub was scheduling a ride for August, they decided to change their plans and use the ride to honor Johnson’s life.

Paul Cote, president of the Massachusetts Motorcycle Survivors Fund, helped set up the ride in short notice so the Gateway Pub could host the fundraiser.

“The survivors fund is to help families of riders killed in accidents,” Cote said about the organization. As done in other survivor fund events, Cote said the pub will also host a raffle at the memorial where free rider training courses will be offered as prizes. IronStone Ventures, in North Andover, donated the training course vouchers for lessons.

“They’ve gone out of their way to make this a very special memorial…a ride that people will remember,” Donna said.

The Motorcycle Safety Foundation in Irvine, CA, and has APPROVED a $3,000 grant request submitted by the Massachusetts Motorcyclists Survivor's Fund, Inc., which will be used to encourage Event attendees not to ride from the Event impaired, by offering alternative transportation and security for their motorcycles.

The MMSF will be allocating $1,000 toward the 2nd Annual Brian's Ride, Sunday, August 3rd from the Jockey Club in Raynham, and $2,000 toward the 9th Annual Nelson's Ride, Sunday, August 24th, from the Salisbury Beach Municipal Parking Lot. Left-over funds will be used for similar programs at other MMSF events.

This is the second year the MMSF has applied and received a $3,000 grant.

Several years ago a mixture of stakeholders from all areas of the county met in technical working groups to come up with recommendations to reduce motorcycle accidents and injuries.

As a result of this collective effort, a document entitled, "The National Agenda for Motorcycle Safety, was published, identifying factors associated with motorcycle crashes and making based on "urgent, essential, necessary" recommendations. This document may be viewed at

Alcohol and Impaired riding was one of the 'urgent' recommendations for the community to address.

The MMSF and the Gateway Pub, at 339 Merrimack Street, Lawrence, will be co-hosting a "Friends of Marty" Memorial Ride, Sunday, August 3rd. Staging begins at 9:30 and the Ride will leave at noon sharp.

Marty Johnson, 21, of Middleton, died in a motorcycle crash last month in Topsfield.

As you might sense from the news report, he was a young man of quality and character, loved by many and missed by all who knew Marty.

Marty's friends contacted the MMSF a few weeks ago seeking assistance in organizing a Ride in his memory. We have met with Marty's parents (Donna and Marty, Sr.) other family members and friends, who wish to keep his memory alive. Our friends at the Gateway Pub, Amy and Paul (both riders), agreed to change their scheduled "Gateway Ride" into this "Friends of Marty" Memorial Ride.

A remote staging area to ride into Gloucester High School will be the Burger King parking lot on Route 128 in Beverly, leaving 11:00 sharp to ride to the High School. Join us there or at the High School for the Ride, or come down to the Fraternity Club for the after-ride party!

Storm The State House! Thursday, May 15th, 2008

On Thursday, May 15, 2008, the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association (MMA) will host its annual motorcyclists lobbying date. Over 80 riders have signed up on advance, taking the day off from work to 'work' their legislators.

If you cannot make it Thursday in person, be there in spirit with us by calling your State Senator and State Rep., Thursday afternoon, between 1:30 and 3:30, just saying hello, that you're a Rider and you support the lobbying efforts going on by the MMA at the State House.

Please make a 3rd call that afternoon to Senate Ethics and Rules Committee Chairman, Benjamin Downing's office, at 617- 722-1523, asking him to release Senate Bill, No. 2076, the adult choice bill, from his Committee.

The Ride will stage at the Good Time Emporium in Somerville, beginning at 9:30 with Free Coffee and a $15 a person breakfast, until 11:15.

The STORM $5.00 raffle with prizes of a 100 gallons of gas, MMA jacket, MMA shirt, and five (5) 2008 Harley Bike Raffle tickets will be drawn about 11:30 (need not be present to win). We have about 200 tickets left for this special raffle and if you'd like your name put on some tickets, e-mail me and tell me the 'check is in the mail' and we'll put your name and phone number on the stubs - again, $5 each.

The free Ride will leave Somerville about 11:55 and ride into Boston with special reserved parking paid by the MMA. Riders will go through one of three of the security entrances into the State House and meet up in Nurse's Hall for some presentations. Then they will visit there elected officials' offices to discuss with them some of the issues, including fully funding the Motorcycle Safety Fund, adult helmet choice, and increased penalties for right of way violations. About 3:30 some will gather at the 21st Amendment Pub to review their experiences.

Be a "Rider of the STORM !"

On Thursday, May 15, the Massachusetts Motorcycle Association (MMA) will STORM the STATE HOUSE on its annual Motorcyclists Lobbying Day, for riders to ride from Somerville to Boston, with special parking, to meet with their elected officials to 'redress' our grievances with our Government, as allowed by the US Constitution. This is the one day we need riders to STEP UP - and make their 'bitches' to those who can affect the changes we want.

The ride is FREE ! It is on a Thursday because the State House is not open on Saturdays or Sundays. We need riders who care about our freedoms and our safety, to join us.

If you would like breakfast, or a STORM Event T-shirt, patch, rocker, or raffle ticket for 100 gallons of gas, five of our MMA HD raffle tickets, an MMA jacket or denim shirt, deadline for pre-ordering is April 30.
